Montessori Pre-K Teacher

Gilmour is seeking a collaborative and innovative Montessori Preschool Teacher. We seek an experienced Montessori professional who embodies Gilmour’s mission and vision. Responsibilities include maintaining the operation of the classroom in accordance with Montessori philosophy and procedures; creating lesson plans and curricula focused on developing social, physical, intellectual, and emotional skills; assessing children’s individual needs and communicating with parents. This position reports to the Lower School Director.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Establishing and maintaining a classroom inspired by the Montessori philosophy, paying particular attention to the needs of students.

  • Planning, preparing, and maintaining all units of study – including Montessori materials, thematic units, library books, etc.

  • Facilitating a respectful environment for children and adults by advocating conflict resolution and Grace and Courtesy lessons.

  • Responsible for the preparation of classroom materials and equipment; ensuring that all materials are in good repair and all sets are complete. Develops and makes materials when needed.

  • Maintaining an ongoing dialogue with other teachers and coordinators to handle curriculum integration and implementation.

  • Carefully observing and keeping daily records on each student’s individual progression through the classroom.

  • Working with individual students to gauge their abilities and work towards catering to these abilities.

  • Using various assessment tools to evaluate each student’s capabilities within the classroom.

  • Completing and maintaining student records in the school’s database.

  • Preparing an environment conducive to learning and social and academic development.

  • Ensuring the safety and emotional security of students and ensuring that the physical environment of the classroom is under the health and security directives of the school.

  • Developing and participating in school functions such as orientations, projects, and school activities.

  • Ensuring respectful and open lines of communication with parents. Be available to parents through written communication, setting up conferences, and educating parents in Montessori philosophy.

Requirements:

  • Valid Ohio teaching license required; candidates eligible to obtain licensure will be considered.

  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in early childhood education or equivalent required.

  • AMI, AMS, or IMC diploma preferred; willingness to obtain credentials with employer support is a plus.

  • Current CPR/First Aid certification required.

  • Exceptional patience with strong observational, communication, and diagnostic skills.

  • Physical ability to meet the demands of working with preschool- and kindergarten-aged children.
