Director of Lower School and Montessori Programs

Position Scope

Gilmour Academy is an independent, Catholic, coeducational, college-preparatory school rooted in the Holy Cross tradition. Our mission is to develop students with the vision to see and the courage to act in creating a more humane and just society.

Aligned with this mission and the school’s strategic plan, the Director of the Lower School provides professional, high-impact leadership to advance the vision, direction, and academic excellence of the Lower School. The Director is responsible for ensuring the highest standards of teaching, learning, and student achievement.

The Director oversees the daily operations of the Lower School—including the management of students, faculty, staff, resources, and facilities—and serves as the primary point of contact for all internal stakeholders and external partners. As an ambassador of Gilmour Academy, the Director promotes and enhances the school’s visibility and reputation within the local and broader community.

The Director reports directly to the Chief Academic Officer/Dean of Faculty, who holds overall strategic responsibility for all academic divisions and provides ongoing support and guidance.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Master’s degree in educational administration, curriculum, or a related field required;

  • 3-5 years of experience in elementary or middle school administration

  • Holds current Ohio certification or licensure.

  • Significant experience in educational settings, with preference for experience in tuition-based schools and alignment with the school’s Catholic and Holy Cross mission.

  • Proven leadership in academic and/or student life roles, including experience as a department head, course director, and in at least one senior administrative position.

  • Exceptional administrative, organizational, and interpersonal skills; adept at engaging effectively with faculty, students, parents, and leadership.

  • Capable of making timely, compassionate decisions in dynamic and emotionally complex environments, guided by the school’s mission and values.

  • Recognized as a respected educator and leader, trusted by peers and school leadership.

  • Skilled at representing faculty perspectives and fostering collaboration across teams.
