Position Scope

Substitute teachers perform the instructional and classroom management processes for teachers who are absent for a day or longer periods of time. Their duties include (but are not limited to) taking attendance, explaining course work, exhibiting classroom management, and classroom cleanliness. Substitutes must have proven knowledge of effective teaching practices that ensure a positive and engaging learning experience. In addition, all substitutes must have a valid substitute license to sub at Gilmour Academy.

Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):

  • Following the teacher’s written lesson plans.
  • Consulting with the principal and/or staff to resolve questions and/or concerns.
  • Assuming all duties and responsibilities of the absent teacher.
  • Complying with all building safety procedures and schedules.
  • Promoting the proper use and care of school property.
  • Developing and maintaining a positive learning environment.
  • Working cooperatively with faculty, staff, and parents.
  • Upholding computer technology acceptable use policies.
  • Respecting personal privacy. Maintaining the confidentiality of privileged information.
  • Performs other specific job-related duties as directed.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Education or related field.
  • Current Ohio Teaching License or Substitute License.
  • Ability to follow both oral and written directions and instructions.
  • Ability to communicate in both oral and written means.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to students, parents, and faculty/staff.
  • Ability to effectively manage time and responsibilities.
  • Ability to be professional in appearance, attitude, and demeanor.
