Upper School Counselor
Position Summary

Gilmour Academy is an independent, Catholic, coeducational college preparatory school rooted in the Holy Cross tradition. Our mission is to develop students with the ability to see and the courage to act in building a more humane and just society — fostering in each student a strong sense of self-worth through personal achievement and the discovery of their unique voice.

We seek an experienced, compassionate Upper School Counselor committed to supporting students' academic, college, career, and social-emotional development. The ideal candidate brings strong counseling skills, a collaborative spirit, and enthusiasm for working with secondary-level students.
Essential Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and group counseling to support students' academic, college, and career, and social-emotional growth.
  • Deliver services through diverse methods, including one-on-one meetings, classroom lessons, presentations, and family education programs.
  • Build trusting relationships with students, families, and colleagues through empathy, authenticity, and positive regard.
  • Identify student strengths while helping them navigate and manage challenges effectively.
  • Collaborate with students, families, faculty, and community partners to promote student success and well-being.
  • Connect students and families with appropriate resources, referrals, and community support.
  • Use data to plan, assess, and continuously improve counseling programs and practices.
  • Monitor student progress and recommend adjustments to counseling approaches and school policies as needed.
  • Serve as an advocate for the whole child, championing academic achievement, college and career readiness, and social-emotional development.
  • Contribute to the development and ongoing management of a comprehensive school counseling program.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in School Counseling or a related field
  • Valid school counseling licensure or certification
  • Experience counseling students at the secondary level
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
  • Commitment to collaboration, professional growth, and student-centered practice
